its not often you hear a techno record produced by a total of five people. when it happens, it’s usually to mark a passage and make a statement. sometimes it is a matter of celebrating a rita of passage, a shift into maturity and the embodiment of a new skin. this is what repitch is doing with the fourth and final installment in their “features” series, reuniting all the crew for the the final blast of what’s been a long and massive barrage of heavy techno. this is the collaboration to end them all: repitch founders ascion, d. carbone and shapenoise have shared the studio with longtime allies and. together, they explore a common ground made of pounding metallic percussions, gutwrenching bass and thick, furious grooves, with each producer bringing his own peculiar contributions to the table. this last installment marks the end of a process that accompanied repitch throughout its whole existence, thus enhancing the beginning of a new chapter in the label’s creative output.

after the success of the first release by ivan iacobucci, holic trax sublabel monoklo now enlists berlin-based martin lewis for three hot tracks featuring a remix from label boss man and japanese don tomoki tamura. no nonsense opener the wax is a supple, rubbery roller with sparse stabs accompanying the infectious groove. -poetry- then sinks down into a more warming and human groove, with smeared synths bringing colour and heat to a loose house groove, before lewis shows his skills at choppy techno with drumcatch. tomoki tamura also remixes this latter track, stripping it right back to a suggestive, infectious final groove with feather light percussion, skewed chords and involving sub bass that laps at the heels of the track.

label head enzo siragusa returns to fuse for his first full ep since 2012 with the sanctuary ep kicking off with double dove, a hyper-kinetic slab of phunked up tech weaponry. the cavernous bass makes for a real warehouse vibe whilst silken pads lap upon the senses for an audio overload. the flipside s solo takes things into deeper realms, a tripped out vocal effect being the track focal point, custom made for early hours sessions whilst the eps vinyl only track gemini does away with any headier pretences and delves straight into the heart of things with a thumping kick and sense of purpose.

q3a is a new alias of route 8, a producer who has credits on labels like lobster theremin and nous as well as black venison. now the producer serves up a sumptuous four track ep, space chamber, on the delsin label and it touches on many different styles with equally great results. lost souls is first and is an expansive bit of well driven deep house with rich synths and cavernous innards that really suck you in. next up is another serenely crafted bit of atmospheric house with dusty drums and lose hits all backed with heavenly pads and retro bass. the first of the b-side tracks is a chunky acid kicker with angelic vocals drifting up top as a controlled 303 line rips up the foreground. spaced out and deep, driving yet emotive, it is a moving bit of club music before the b2 trips you out on a silvery electro tip with its icy lines and slap-funk snares. overall, this is an expansive and perfectly formed ep and comes with a sleeve by boris tellegen.

brendon moeller returns to third ear after some years, following up his lauded jazz junk safari trilogy of eps with 4 peak time bombs. all 4 tracks blow up the dance floor. brendon moeller known for his sound design, has taken his sonics to extremes on all four tracks, pushing, twisting and teasing frequencies to the limit. the bass on all tracks is phenomenal. it s just as well that a master engineer like pole has mastered these tracks, maxing out the sound yet protecting the sound systems that these bombs will be played on. super fun.

the second part in his modernista initiation and this release sees tom mcconnell confirm his production versatility, merging diverse influences and sounds into a singular identity. 77 is rhodes-led house meets jazz, driven by drum box disco beats interspersed with surreal strings. hurled towards jupiter is a suitably atmospheric (cosmic?) track with swirling arpeggiated keys underpinned by a heavy bass line and off centre tribal percussion. peacefoot follows its own path, morphing from a submerged disco loop into a slow polyrhythmic acidic burn and back again.

tresor.283 unveils yet another exceptional debut ep, this time from the hand of zadig. the head of construct re-form had already been initiated to the tresor catalog with the inclusion of panic on the demo tracks #2 compilation, in 2013.
with the stellar hunter he delivers three tracks rich in tradition, matching impeccably to his style, arrangemental magic and masterful set of technique.
between elongated synth pads, high-frequency blips and reversed kick drum sequences coupler with deep hypnotic bass lines, zadig proves to be the talented recipient of an illustrious heritage in techno, carrying it forward with modern application.

the last few years has seen parris make a name for himself across a number of scenes, to the extent he is just as likely to be found spinning records for butterz as he is putting records out on berceuse heroique. here at idle hands we first touched base with parris many moons ago when he bought copies of the first release on his soundman chronicles label into our shop. as it is one of our favourite labels we were intrigued to hear what he would come up with as producer himself. needless to say we were impressed. presented here are two tracks that perfectly reflect his sound and our own a nod to techno here, a weighty bass line there, a love of reverb everywhere and all with a view to being played in dark rooms late at night. the 12 inch of burr and blue is idle hands last release of 2015 and we think it rounds off nicely what has been a great year for the label.

simple enough to come true (lag005) is the debut solo e.p. from l.a.g. label boss arthur kimskii. the ep contains 3 cuts. simple enough is the emotional big room cut with trippy vocals and rolling bass and big kicks. she survived playfully uses noise elements and reverb. the producers ny/nj influences really shine through in this deep house/techno cut.

nice price deal !!! ephemerals debut on helena treats us to three deep originals, offset by a characteristically storming xdb remix on the flip. molecular and cirrus combine gritty textures, half-heard phrases, pulsing bass and cyclical synth and acid lines into the kind of meditative sound experience familiar to fans of plan b or underground quality – but here, and especially on ammonia, overlaid by the distinctly dubby feel of drizzly afternoons spent at ephemeral s home in the midlands. xdb, true to form, grabs the latter track and sticks on some serious afterburners, setting controls for a revved-up voyage across the surface of some distant planet.

brstl returns with two house cuts from jay l, his second release for the label. started in 2011 as a means to highlight house and techno being produced in bristol, the label watched over by shanti celeste and idle hand’s chris farrell is now into double figures.show me on the a-side is a finely constructed piece of house music aimed at djs and dancers. anyone who saw jays recent boiler room debut will know his musical style, steeped in classic us house, soul and boogie but with a tastefully bumpy uk edge. the b-side blue age is a deeper cut living up to its title, all wistfull piano keys and a subdued bass line. this is jay l and brstl doing what they do best, sending vibes from bristol to the world.

nice price deal !!! better strangers is the debut album by manchester based producer acre, set for release by tectonic recordings on 6th november 2015. the album follows eps on both tectonic and sister label cold recordings and visionists pan collaboration label codes. as influenced by rave & jungle, grime and techno as electronica, ambient and drone, his ep releases have been rhythm driven snapshots of other-worldliness spliced with dancefloor sensibilities. acre has sought to explore a wider variety of textures on better strangers to re-contextualise elements from uk bass music, bring them away from the dancefloor and open up new possibilities.

gentlemans dub club have been rocking the uk and europe since forming in leeds in 2006. theyve built a reputation for one of the most energetic live shows to emerge from the uk bass music scene, seeing the gents antics astound crowds from goa to glastonbury, bestival, v fest, and more, as well as at the biggest bass music festival in the world, croatias outlook festival. partnering with easy star records, gdc is unleashing their second full length album - the big smoke - and expanding their devoted following to north america, europe, australia, and anywhere else they can. the record features 11 tracks including guest appearances by uk reggae singer natty and tenor sax star josh arcoleo.

cadenza music opens up its 2016 account with the debut single from swiss producers, rare movement feat. disco channel. cutting their teeth on the dj circuit for many years, and playing alongside such esteemed jocks as seth troxler, ricardo villalobos (who mastered the audio on these tracks), jamie jones and luciano (who ultimately signed this single to cadenza), the guys have crafted a pair of tracks that sit right in the dj sets of the aforementioned company. rare 007 combines tension building synths and a wandering bassline, wrapped up tight in solid drum groove, its hypnotizing tones carving out a most useful club tool. on the flip side, rare 011 digs deeper, with cinematic string sweeps over the sparse and bass heavy kick drum. flashes of vocal refrains and micro percussion fly in and out of the arrangement as the melodic elements give this one a real sense of drama as the track blossoms into life. a very accomplished debut from the guys will no doubt provide a real dancefloor moment in the right setting, and no surprise that villalobos gave these tracks the audio master that they deserve.

black repress! andre kronerts seminal exu ep gets a comprehensive rework from some of the most outstanding on the scene. tense and sinister new cuts from kronert introduce both sides of the release, whilst the label calls upon remixes from berlin mainstays efdemin and ed davenport, as well as hollands finest export juan sanchez, plus stockholm ltd label boss par grindvik alongside fellow swede peder mannerfelt. retaining the slurred vocal of the original, efdemin layers thundering effects over chasmic bass in his mix of into the zone, which saw heavy rotation last year. meanwhile davenport brings a wild yet streamlined intensity to c.o.d.e.2. side b sees grindvik team up with mannerfelt to provide a joint interpretation of into the zone, which they manipulate into a peak-time epic, with a soaring melody over hammering toms. finally, juan sanchez channels funk through roll the dice with a twitchy, groove-laden rework. the spirit of exu is made physical once again via 12 inches and 27 minutes of wax.
